WHY I'M IN THIS RACE
I'm in this Democratic primary because we need to talk seriously about the future of this country and the legacy we are going to leave to future generations. The issues we face today span generations. Climate change, renewable energy, national security, these are problems that demand the attention, ideas and hard work of all Americans from all walks of life. My priority, if elected, would be to bring our troops home from Iraq so that we can invest badly needed resources here at home. We need an education policy that empowers students and teachers, ending President Bush's strategy of punishing over burdened schools. We need to invest in alternative energy so that we can save our planet and grow our economy. Important innovations are already taking place in our district, and we need to make sure that these new industries stay in our state and create new jobs. We have a long and proud history, including that of our national leadership in the high-tech and natural resource sectors. Clearly,
alternative energy production is the opportunity to bring these industries together and make our state a national leader. We have a great state; I'm proud to be from Oregon and take very seriously my
responsibility to give back to this special place that has given me so much.
